Texas Wine

Wichita Falls Winery Tasting Room

Wichita Falls Winery Entrance
Wichita Falls Vineyards and Winery may be slightly off the beaten Texas wine path, but if you are traveling Highway 287 and are looking for a fun Texas wine adventure, it's definitely worth a stop. Alton (pictured above) and Lana Gates will make you feel right at home with their great southern hospitality and flavorful Texas wine offerings. There is a wide range of Texas wine styles - dry, sweet, red, white, and dessert - many of which are multiple award winners.

Wichita Falls Winery Gift ShopOne thing that impresses me about the Gates - like many Australian wine makers these Texans embraced Stelvin (screw cap) bottle closures. If you are a fan of the cork, consider this: the basic reason to use a cork closure is for wines that need extra bottle aging. More than 90% of wine produced throughout the world is consumed when purchased and not meant for that type of aging! The cork may even contribute to wine faults in many instances, so in my mind, the Gates are right on!

Wichita Falls Wine Press and ValarieIn addition to the spotless facilities and great wines, check out the chocolate wine sauces - maybe with some of their Port style Texas dessert wine, or take it home for a perfect cheesecake topping. Wichita Falls Vineyards and Winery has a fully stocked gift shop with everything a wine lover could want, including wine scented candles. The cutie in this bottom picture is my daughter, Valarie. I so appreciate her letting me drag her along on some of my winery adventures!
